01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Maru offers plenty to choose from around the teppan, from okonomiyaki and Kujo green onion pancakes to yakisoba. The menu ranges from familiar pork and squid pancakes to a mixed version with pork, squid and beef, as well as a combination of mochi and cheese.

Some visitors have ordered the beef tendon pancake and omu-soba, reporting that both the okonomiyaki and omu-soba were finished with a sweet sauce. They also noted that spicy sauce, aonori and shichimi pepper were available to add to taste.

For teppan-grilled bites to go with a drink, options include grilled offal, domestically sourced small intestine, gizzard and thick-cut salted tongue. One diner enjoyed the grilled offal, cartilage and small intestine with sauce, describing the teppan dishes as drinking snacks and the flour-based dishes as a meal.

On another visit, a diner paired mixed okonomiyaki with shrimp mayonnaise and fried cartilage. The small plates also include fried chicken, corn tempura and pork, kimchi and cheese spring rolls. You could start with a few shared dishes before moving on to yakisoba or okonomiyaki.

The menu also features Kyoto-style monjayaki and salted monjayaki generously topped with Kujo green onion. According to the menu listing, the Kyoto-style version comes with pork, squid and tofu from Toyouke-ya for 1,035 yen, while the downtown-style monjayaki includes Baby Star snack noodles for 935 yen. These offer a change of pace from standard okonomiyaki for a group sharing a meal.

One visitor reported that the staff cooked and served the dishes, so diners eat food that is ready to enjoy rather than cooking it themselves. Seating includes a counter and teppan tables at the back. Visitors have also mentioned using the Japanese-style room upstairs with family, and seeing groups dining together.

Drinks include beer, plum wine and wine, and an all-you-can-drink option is available. For an evening combining teppan-grilled snacks with okonomiyaki, the menu and range of seating make Maru worth considering.
